Aurora Ranks No. 4 In Top 10 Places To Trick-Or-Treat

The city slipped from No. 3 last year but still holds strong based on several factors including crime and weather.

AURORA, IL — The city ranks No. 4 on the list of best American cities for trick-or-treating. It ranked No. 3 the year before and slipped a spot in an annual SmartAsset study. How did they determine Aurora to be fourth? Criteria include: Population density, percent of residents under the age of 15, home values, violent and property crime rates, precipitation and temperature. There's about a seven percent chance of rain on any given Halloween, according to the study. It ranked more than 250 of the largest U.S. cities and found the Midwest is best.

One of the reasons Aurora ranks so high is because of all the haunted houses, hayrides, pumpkin patches and festivals preceding the holiday. Aurora has a top 25 percent lowest violent crime rate and the seventh-lowest property crime rate. With dense housing and an average of 56 degrees, conditions are favorable for trick-or-treating. The data found that the Midwest is the most desirable place to trick-or-treat with seven of the top 10 spots, including Elgin at No. 9.

Florida cities occupied the bottom three spots in the study because of high chances of rain and high average temperatures.
