Aurora Veterans Day Parade Canceled, Ceremony Moved Indoors
The change, which moves the ceremony earlier in the day, came after the forecast called for snow Monday.
AURORA, IL — The 2019 Aurora Veterans Day Parade has been canceled and the ceremony will be moved indoors due to inclement weather, according to an update from city officials Sunday afternoon. The parade had been scheduled for 10:15 a.m., but now the ceremony will take place at 10:15 a.m. instead due to a forecast that calls for inclement weather.
In a statement, Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin said,
"With the weather forecast calling for snow and wind chill temperatures in the low teens, we want to make sure everyone is safe. Many of our parade units consisted of military veterans who are senior citizens and youth performers from area schools. We can't have them out in the elements for an extended period of time. We also don’t want to miss the opportunity to honor our veterans for their service and sacrifice. Now, we can do so in a warm, comfortable environment.”
The ceremony will be held indoors at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Pl., Aurora.
