Aurora Voters Must Apply For Mail-In Ballots For 2021 Elections

Kane County mailed applications to more than 200,000 registered voters in 2020 due to the coronavirus, but that will not continue in 2021.

AURORA, IL — Voters in Aurora who wish to cast their ballots through the mail for the Feb. 23 primary or April 6 election must apply for a mail-in ballot from the Kane County Clerk’s Office.

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the clerk’s office sent applications for mail-in ballots to more than 200,000 registered voters ahead of the November 2020 election.

However, the state law that required those applications to be sent to registered voters did not include enough funding to continue that practice in 2021, according to a news release from Kane County Clerk John Cunningham.

Voters will not receive a mail-in ballot if they do not complete an application, meaning they would be required to vote in person. Voters can also call the clerk’s office at 630-232-5990 or visit the office in Geneva.

Online application for mail-in ballot for April 6 election

Applications must be submitted to the Kane County Clerk’s Office no later than Feb. 18 for those who wish to vote by mail in the Feb. 23 primary. Finished mail-in ballots must be postmarked on or before Feb. 23 to be counted.

Early voting for the Feb. 23 primary got underway in Kane County last month in several jurisdictions with contested races: Aurora Township, Dundee Township, Elgin Township and Campton Hills.
