Car Burglars Target Aurora In Past Week: Cops

A spike in Aurora car burglaries led to bandits taking medication, cash, a rifle case & more from unlocked cars.

AURORA, IL — Police officers have a suggestion for a New Year's resolution: lock your vehicles. In a Facebook post from last Friday, the Aurora Police Department sent the warning after a seven burglaries took place within six days. All the cars were left unlocked, police said.

This is one of several similar messages the Aurora police have sent in the past few months about the importance of locking cars. In one instance, $1,100 in electronics and cash was reported stolen from a car parked in a driveway on the 900 block of Wedgewood Lane. In another, jewelry and cash worth $940 was taken from a car in an open garage in the 500 block of Wilder Street.

Jan. 9, a man thwarted at attempt to steal from his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. Other items stolen in the recent string of burglaries include prescription medicine, a briefcase and empty rifle soft case.
