Chris Kennedy, Top Box Distribute Food To Seniors In Aurora
Kennedy's Top Box Foods has delivered more than 1,000 food boxes to Aurora residents through a partnership with the city.
AURORA, IL — Former Illinois gubernatorial candidate Chris Kennedy visited Aurora on Wednesday to hand out food boxes and mark the successful start of a partnership with the city.
Top Box Foods, founded in 2012 by Chris and Sheila Kennedy, launched an initiative last month with the City of Aurora that has provided more than 1,000 nutritional food boxes to 250 residents in low-income communities, according to a news release.

Residents in five neighborhoods, mostly composed of single mothers and senior citizens, have received boxes of fresh produce and meat every other week since early September as a result of the city’s partnership with Top Box Foods, the release states.

Kennedy’s trip to Aurora comes almost exactly 60 years after his uncle and then-U.S. Sen. John F. Kennedy visited the city during the 1960 presidential election.

City officials billed Chris Kennedy’s visit Wednesday as “another important campaign,” with the businessman also set to hand out diabetes-prevention information to residents.

“We have segments of our community who are in need of additional food, but just do not have the means to attend other outreach efforts,” Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin said in the release. “Kennedy and his team have helped us to fight food insecurity and food inaccessibility for those most in need. This is often the same population disproportionately impacted by diabetes, hypertension and even COVID-19.”
