Clerk To Recount Votes In More Than 100 Kane County Precincts
Three Republicans who were defeated last month are hoping for good news after the Kane County Clerk conducts a discovery recount Tuesday.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Three Republican candidates who lost their races in November still have a glimmer of hope, with the Kane County Clerk’s office set to do a discovery recount Tuesday in 119 precincts, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
Jim Oberweis, David Rickert and Jeanette Ward filed petitions for a discovery recount after each was defeated by their Democratic opponent in a close race.
Each candidate said they were entitled to a discovery recount after earning at least 95 percent of the winner’s vote total, the Chronicle reports.

Oberweis challenged Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) for her seat in Congress but came up several thousand votes short.
He declared victory shortly after polls closed Nov. 3, though he held a lead of less than 1,000 votes with tens of thousands of votes still to be counted. The Associated Press called the race for Underwood on Nov. 12, after she opened up a lead of more than 4,000 votes over the Illinois state senator.
Underwood picked up 50.7 percent of the 401,000 votes cast in the race, with Oberweis earning 49.3 percent of the vote.
