Congressman Bill Foster To Celebrate Service Academy Nominees

The event will be held in Aurora on Saturday

On Saturday, Congressman Bill Foster is hosting a ceremony honoring service academy nominees, according to a press release from his office.

Thirty-one students from the 11th District received nominations this year to attend one of four academies including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The event will be at 11 a.m. on Feb. 18 at the Aurora Santori Library, 101 S. River St.

Applicants to service academies must seek a nomination, usually from a congressional representative. Graduates of the military academies are commissioned as officers in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force. They are required to serve as the military's junior leaders and managers a minimum of five years on active duty.

Rep. Bill Foster is a Democrat, and he serves the 11th Illinois Congressional District, which includes Aurora, Joliet, and most of Naperville.
