AURORA, IL — Commuters in Aurora will not be to park in Parking Lot E for a couple months due to a construction project to revamp the lot. The construction, which will start on Aug. 26 will not only close the parking lot, it will temporarily limit access to the rear entrances of surrounding businesses.

Changes to the lot include removing islands inside of the parking lot to improve the flow of traffic and adding a second entry on New York Avenue. Crews will also add LED lighting to improve visibility and consolidate trash cans to make more room.

The alley walkway that leads from the parking lot to Broadway will also be improved both structurally and aesthetically with additional lighting similar to the string lights at Water Street Mall, officials said.

"Improvements will make the lot more inviting and accessible for those patronizing businesses in downtown and attending events," the city's Chief Management Officer Alex Alexandrou said in a statement. Alexandrou said the businesses that have rear access to the parking lot are in support of the construction.

City officials expect the construction on Parking Lot E to last about two months, depending on weather conditions. In the meantime, commuters that use the lot are advised to park on the street or use nearby Parking Lot M.
