Crowdfunding Pit Bull Victim's Med Bills; Teacher Says Family Needs More Help

A crowdfunding page started by the boy's teacher has raised more than $3,000 so far.

AURORA, IL — A crowdfunding campaign has raised more than $3,000 for a boy’s medical expenses after he was attacked by two pitbulls last Friday. Lucas Drees-Segundo, 10, has already undergone two surgeries and will likely face more, according to the YouCaring webpage. The fifth-grader was mauled while walking to school last week. “His injuries are very serious, but not life-threatening," a post on the page reads. "Luke is a very brave little boy with a long road ahead of him.”

Kate Werner is the boy’s teacher at Dieterich Elementary School. She started the crowdfunding effort Tuesday to help his mom, Denise Drees, with the financial burden. At the time of publish, Werner has helped raise $3,193 from 87 people. The page has almost a thousand shares. If all those who shared gave $6.88, the $10,000 goal would be met.
