AURORA, IL — An Aurora woman faces charges of animal cruelty after she was accused of leaving her dog outside in 96-degree heat without water, food or shelter. The dog, described as an 18-month-old pit bull, died after police say Krystle Noriega, 34, of the 900 block of Fourth Avenue, left him tied to a pole in direct sunlight when temperatures were nearly 100 degrees, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A neighbor reportedly alerted animal control on July 10 after seeing that the dog had fallen down in the driveway. When animal control got to Noriega's home, they discovered that the dog was dead.

Police who responded to the scene reported that another dog was in a pen inside the home without access to food or water.
