Dozens Of Aurora Businesses Apply For Coronavirus Relief Funds
More than 60 businesses applied for grants in the first few days after lawmakers established a relief program, according to a report.
AURORA, IL — A recently established coronavirus-relief fund is attracting lots of interest from Aurora businesses, with more than 60 applying in just the first few days, the Aurora Beacon-News reports.
The Aurora City Council earlier this month approved a package of relief initiatives, including a $1.2 million Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund to help small businesses stay afloat. Businesses can apply for grants of up to $15,000 from the city.

To qualify for a grant, a business must employ no more than 50 people and be in good standing with the state. National, corporate-owned franchises are not eligible for funding, though local franchisees can apply, according to the city’s application.

City officials are accepting applications until 5 p.m. March 3.
The Aurora City Council also approved a three-month break on collecting food and beverage taxes, worth about $1 million, and a further $250,000 in relief to restaurants and bars through a yearlong pause on license fees for businesses with onsite-consumption liquor licenses.
