Driver In Fatal Hit & Run Was Drunk, Using Phone: Aurora Police

Police allege a North Aurora man was drunk and on his phone when he hit and killed an 18-year-old early Sunday morning in Aurora.

AURORA, IL — A 24-year-old North Aurora man is facing felony charges after police alleged he was drunk and using his phone during a fatal hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

Jace Williams, 24, was charged with felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence in an accident causing death; failure to report and accident or death; and aggravated use of a communication device causing death, according to Kane County court records.

Police allege Williams hit and killed 18-year-old Juan Carlos Zamudio, of Aurora, around 12:50 a.m. Sunday and did not stop to report the crash. Zamudio was struck at the intersection of Indian Trail and Mitchell Road on Aurora’s East Side, police said.

Police said Williams turned himself in at the Aurora Police Department just before noon Sunday, about 11 hours after the crash. Williams drove the pickup truck involved in the crash to the police department, officials said in a news release.
