East Aurora District 131 Looks To Reopen Schools In March

District 131 officials released a tentative schedule showing when students could return to the classroom amid the coronavirus pandemic.

AURORA, IL — Some students in East Aurora District 131 could be back in classrooms by March 1 if current coronavirus trends continue in the region.

Officials announced last month that students will continue learning remotely until at least Feb. 5, with just 14 percent of parents saying they wanted their kids to return to classrooms for the district's third quarter.

District 131 now plans to move to a hybrid-learning plan at the beginning of March for those families, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Norrell wrote in a letter to parents. Elementary students who opted for in-person learning will be in class two days each week.

Students in Pre-K through 5th grade will attend classes Mondays and Wednesdays. Students in Simmons and Cowherd middle schools will be in classrooms on Mondays and Tuesday, while Waldo students will attend Wednesdays and Thursdays, according to the district’s tentative reopening schedule.
