Elderly Man In Dramatic Hit-And-Run Arrested, Charged: Cops
The 71-year-old fled the scene & allegedly plowed into a car wash, then a field, where his car burst into flames.

MONTGOMERY, IL — An Aurora man has been arrested as a result of an alleged hit-and-run that took place in November. Earnest Sercye, 71, was involved in a crash at the corner of Montgomery Road and Douglas Road Nov. 28, 2017. He fled south on Douglas, with the victim behind him. They both turned east onto Barbara Lane, police said.
Sercye ended up driving into a Power Car Wash, where he struck a kiosk and did damage to the property, according to a press release. A Montgomery officer in the area saw firsthand the incident at the car wash, and attempted to take him into custody, but did not initiate a pursuit.
The man kept driving recklessly, striking a post at the Salvation Army building, police said. The man's truck crashed into a concrete wall at the end of a dead end street before driving his car into a field, where it burst into flames, according to a patch article written shortly after the incident. He was rescued and treated for injuries at Rush-Copley Medical Center, then later at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

According to the most recent press release sent Friday, Sercye was arrested at his home on the 500 block of Ashland Avenue in Aurora. He faces additional charges for the following felonies: 4 counts of aggravated battery, 1 count of aggravated assault, and 2 counts of criminal damage to property. Sercye is currently awaiting a bond call hearing at the Kendall County Jail.
