Aurora Apartment Fire Caused by Candle

The candle came in contact with a mattress, which caught fire

On Monday around 7:30 a.m., the Aurora Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a four-story 30 unit apartment building on the 400 block of North Lake Street, according to a department press release.

Fire crews found a fire in a first floor apartment, it had started when a candle came into contact with a mattress. The crew of 22 firefighters extinguished the fire in 5 minutes. The fire as contained to one room. A resident had attempted to extinguish the fire and burned her lower extremity. She was transported to the hospital. Authorities deemed the apartment habitable, but it minor repairs are needed. The total damage was estimated at $500.
