Food Bank To Offer Free Meals To Aurora Kids

The free meals will be available at parks throughout the city on weekdays during summer.

AURORA, IL -- After playing outside this summer, kids in Aurora will be able to refuel with free healthy meals at several locations throughout the city. The Northern Illinois Food Bank's Summer Meals Program., which comes from a partnership with the City of Aurora and Meals on the Move, runs from June 3 through Aug. 9.

The Summer Meals van will make the rounds on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with stops at the following locations:

9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Garfield Park

10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: Martin Luther King Park

12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.: McCarty Park

1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Blackhawk Park

3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: : Garfield Park (Monday and Wednesday), Sage Crest Apartments (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; residents only)

The free summer meals come in boxes filled with lunch items and snacks. The summer meals menu rotates daily and features such items as flatbread pizza, grilled chicken salad, sun butter sandwiches, and nachos.

No registration is required to take advantage of the free meal program, but those who participate must eat their meals on-site.
