GoFundMe To Help Family Of Aurora Man Killed In Hit & Run

Eighteen-year-old Juan Carlos Zamudio, who went by Tito, was "the best father" to a "beautiful baby boy," according to his loved ones.

AURORA, IL — A GoFundMe campaign is seeking to support the family of 18-year-old Juan Carlos Zamudio, who died last month in a hit-and-run crash.

Zamudio was walking in the intersection of Indian Trail and Mitchell Road around 12:50 a.m. March 28 when he was hit by a pickup truck, police have said. Paramedics tried to save Zamudio’s life, but he died shortly after at a local hospital. According to police.

Zamudio, who was known to friends and family as Tito, was “the best father” to a “beautiful baby boy,” according to Ashley and Dora Ramirez, who set up the GoFundMe page. The campaign is aiming to raise $7,000 to cover his funeral expenses.

More than 70 people have given to the fundraiser in its first five days, with about $5,600 donated as of Monday morning.

“Thank you to everyone that has donated,” Dora Ramirez wrote on the page. “This means so much to all of the family of Tito. Especially his mother that is going through this difficult time. This is greatly appreciated.. May God Bless each and everyone of y’all.”

Police allege 24-year-old Jace Williams, of North Aurora, was drunk and using his phone when he hit Zamudio. Williams did not stop to report the crash and turned himself into authorities about 11 hours later, police allege.

Williams was charged with felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence in an accident causing death; failure to report and accident or death; and aggravated use of a communication device causing death, according to Kane County court records.
