Guzman Concedes In Aurora Mayor Race

"...I don't have to be mayor to make a difference," Guzman said

On Friday, Rick Guzman conceded to Richard Irvin in the race to become Aurora's mayor, according to the Beacon News. The DuPage and Aurora election commissions had promised to provide information on uncounted ballots within 48 hours of election night, according to Guzman, but the commissions provided no new information by Friday. Guzman said he did not want to be a hindrance on any transition planning. "I ran for mayor because I believed that I could make a difference,"Guzman said in a statement according to the Beacon News. "But I also know I don't have to be mayor to make a difference. That is one of the ways, but by no means the only way." Richard Irvin declared victory when the unofficial results showed him ahead by 170 votes. "I believe in us, I believe in Aurora," Irvin said on election night according to the Beacon News. "Based on the results tonight, Aurora believed in me."
