Hollywood Casino To Lay Off 256 In Aurora, Joliet Amid Pandemic
The permanent layoffs are set to take effect on Sept. 15, with the company blaming the coronavirus pandemic and related shutdowns.

AURORA, IL — More than 250 employees of Hollywood Casino in Aurora and Joliet are set to be out of a job in September. The company filed notices last month of impending mass layoffs, showing Hollywood Casino Aurora plans to lay off 111 people and Hollywood Casino Joliet will lay off 145.
The permanent layoffs are set to take effect on Sept. 15, with the company blaming the coronavirus pandemic and related shutdowns, according to the latest Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act report.
Illinois officials closed down casinos throughout the state in March at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak. They remained closed for more than three months before reopening July 1. Hollywood Casino officials have filed notices of layoffs at locations throughout the country.

Eighty-one companies in Illinois filed WARN notices last month, with a total of 664 people set to lose their jobs and 1,590 to see their hours cut at least 50 percent. All but eight companies listed “COVID-19” as the reason for the layoffs.
