Hundreds Of Aurora Businesses Apply For Coronavirus Relief Grants

AURORA, IL — Aurora officials established a $1.2 million fund last month to help businesses survive the coronavirus pandemic, and hundreds quickly took action to get a slice of the relief money.

More than 260 businesses applied for financial support from Aurora’s Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund, which officials said would provide grants between $2,000 and $15,000, the Aurora Beacon-News reports.

Each of those businesses would stand to receive a grant of about $4,500 if all applications are approved and grants are equally allotted.

Officials are working to provide a final list of approved businesses to the Aurora City Council at its meeting Tuesday night, the report states. Some applications have been rejected because businesses were not based in Aurora or because they earned more in 2020 than 2019, the Beacon-News reports.

The city’s CERF fund was approved as part of a package of coronavirus-relief programs for Aurora businesses.

City officials also approved a three-month break of collecting food and beverage taxes, worth about $1 million, and an additional $250,000 in relief for restaurants and bars through a yearlong pause on license fees for businesses with onsite-consumption liquor licenses.
