95-Year-Old Woman's Jewelry Stolen: Aurora Police
95-year-old's vision and hearing impaired, Police Department urges residents to lock doors

AURORA, IL — A 95-year-old victim of a recent break-in has the Aurora Police Department cautioning residents. Around 5 p.m. Oct. 2, a male knocked on the women’s door in the 300 block of S. State St. He asked for her son by name, who was not home. He walked in, mentioning something about home repair, police said.
According to police, the woman has both vision and hearing problems. The two had a brief conversation, then the man suddenly left. A short while later, her son returned and noticed jewelry was missing from the home. Police offered no physical description of the suspect.
Police encourage regular talks with seniors about the mass availability of personal information on the internet.

“Con men asking for a family member by name is not at all rare," police said, adding, "We'd really like to talk to this guy and/or his accomplice if there is one."
Homes should be locked and people should call 9-1-1 if they find themselves in a similar situation, police said.
