Back in 2008, Judd Lofchie would informally meet up with a group of friends and business associates at the Roundhouse to discuss challenges they faced as small business owners and entrepreneurs doing business in Aurora. Through these discussions, and working together, the friends often found creative solutions to each other’s problems. Judd was not only encouraged after these meetings, he was energized. Judd asked himself, how can this positive energy be harnessed for the wider community? He answered this question by forming Aurora Business United, which is now the largest free networking group in the Western Suburbs with over 2,500 members.
Lofchie hosts Aurora Business United meetings on the second Friday of each month from 7:30a.m. to 9:00a.m. Prior to COVID-19, the group met at the Aurora Public Library, and now meets on Zoom. The meetings begin with networking and introductions. Each meeting features 1-2 speakers who provide educational sessions on a wide array of business-related topics. January’s meeting featured Michael Rayford, who spoke on “Goal Setting for 2021” and February’s meeting featured Author Greg Williams, whose topic was “Body Language Secrets to Win More Negotiations.” Zoom breakout rooms provide additional opportunities for networking and discussion, and the meeting closes with brief announcements from members on special events and fundraisers.
