Kane County to Host Free Pumpkin Recycling Event This Weekend

Pumpkins contain nutrients that can be returned to the soil when composted to help grow more healthy food.

Kane County will be offering a free pumpkin recycling event this weekend in Geneva.

The recycling event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Pushing the Envelope Farm, 1700 Averill Road. Jack O' Lanterns, pumpkins and decorative squashes contain nutrients that can be returned to the soil when composted to help grow more healthy food, according to a city of Geneva news release.

The county reminds recycling patrons to keep the recycling zone contaminant-free, similar to food scrap composting, according to a news release. This means no candles, yard hair, stickers, Halloween decorations or plastic of any kind will be collected.
