Kane County Positivity Rate Drops To 2nd-Lowest Mark of Pandemic

KANE COUNTY, IL — Days after recording its 50,000th coronavirus case last week, Kane County reported some much more encouraging news.

The county’s positivity rate dropped to 3.7 percent Thursday, its second-lowest mark since the Illinois Department of Public Health started publishing that data in June.

That’s down more than 80 percent from its all-time high of 18.4 percent in mid-November as coronavirus cases surged throughout the state. Prior to Feb. 22, Kane County's positivity rate was last under 4 percent on July 8.

The positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — dropped to 3.5 percent last week, its lowest point since officials started tracking the measure. The region's positivity rate peaked at 16 percent on Nov. 13.

DuPage County also recorded its second-lowest positivity rate last week (3.4 percent), the state's data shows.

Public health officials have reported 2,557 new coronavirus cases in Kane County since the start of February, taking its total to 50,800 cases. Thirty-seven residents died from COVID-19 in February, down from 114 deaths in January, the state’s data shows.
