Kane County Positivity Rate Drops To 4-Month Low

The positivity rate in Kane County is under 6 percent for the first time since early October, according to public health data.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County’s positivity rate dipped to 5.8 percent over the weekend, the lowest it’s been in four months, public health data shows.

That’s down nearly 70 percent from its all-time high of 18.4 percent in mid-November as coronavirus cases surged in the area. Prior to Saturday, the last time Kane County’s positivity rate was under 6 percent was Oct. 7, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

On Sunday, the positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — dropped to 4.9 percent, which is also a four-month low. The region’s positivity rate peaked at 16 percent on Nov. 13.

The positivity rate in DuPage County was 4.4 percent, its lowest mark since Sept. 22, the state’s data shows.

Public health officials have reported 1,021 new coronavirus cases in Kane County since the start of February, taking its total to 49,264 cases. Eighteen residents have died of COVID-19 in February, bringing the county’s death toll to 696.
