Man Gets Nearly 3 Years in Prison for Traveling to Aurora for Sex with Minor

He also must register for 10 years as a sex offender.

AURORA, IL — A Hanover Park man is headed to prison after he pleaded guilty to traveling to an Aurora hotel to engage in a sexual encounter with a child.

Nabeel Afsar, 23, of the 1300 block of Santa Anita Drive, agreed to a sentence of 33 months in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to traveling to meet a minor.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Christine Bayer said that on Dec. 23, 2014, Afsar went to an Aurora hotel planning to have sex with what he believed would be a 15-year-old girl. When Afsar arrived at the hotel, he met a person he thought was the girl’s mother, confirmed that he wanted sexual favors for 30 minutes in exchange for $80, and was arrested by officers from Homeland Security Investigations and the Aurora Police Department, Bayer said.

In addition to the prison term, Afsar must register for 10 years as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

According to Illinois law, Afsar is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He receives credit for two days served in the Kane County jail. He had been free on $3,500 bond.
