Meyer Wealth Advisors Awards Scholarships to East High Graduates

Scholarship Announcement: Meyer Wealth Advisors Scholarship is open to EAHS and WAHS students pursuing business-related degrees.

SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Last year, Meyer Wealth Advisors awarded scholarships to two East Aurora High School graduates. This year, Craig Anderson and Jack Meyer, owners of Meyer Wealth Advisors, continued the tradition and awarded two more scholarships to Fatima Rodriguez and Shaila Montano, from East High.

Meyer Wealth Advisors was founded in Aurora where its entire staff was raised and attended either West or East High. The Meyer Wealth Business Scholarship intends to motivate students who are pursuing business degrees and want to make an impact in the Aurora area.

“We believe in the idea of paying it forward. We had mentorship from members of the community, which helped us become successful and contribute to the city. Now it’s time to pay it forward. We hope these students go to college to become successful, then come back to make their own difference in Aurora,” Meyer said.

The scholarship is open to East and West Aurora High School seniors who are pursuing a business degree or intend to start a business with their degree. Applicants for the Meyer Wealth Business Scholarship must complete an application and attach their resume and a brief essay. The application will be made available to East and West High staff in January, but can also be retrieved by contacting Eren at MeyerWealth.com. Applications are due April 15. One student from each high school will be selected to receive the $500 award.

In a time when tuition costs are rising and many college graduates feel overwhelmed by student loans, going to college may seem like an impossible feat for high school students. But there are many scholarship opportunities – especially local ones – that students don’t know exist.

“It’s frustrating to see students opt out of college because they think it’s out of reach for them. In reality, college can be more affordable than they realize if they’d only apply for scholarships and federal financial aid,” Eren Franco, Outreach Coordinator at Meyer Wealth said.

Many graduating seniors will be the first in their families to attend college, so they may lack guidance on how to apply for FAFSA or search for scholarships.

It’s important that high school seniors apply to colleges as soon as possible. It's also a good idea to have a writing sample and resume reviewed by a guidance counselor or teacher, so it’s ready for scholarship application submission. Apply for FAFSA as soon as the window opens. This is necessary for receiving both federal grants (i.e. free money) and university scholarships. In some cases, students may even be able to waive the college’s application fee. The school guidance counselor should be able to help students with this process.

Like the Meyer Wealth Business Scholarship, there are also private scholarships students may qualify for. This is a matter of doing research and finding out which ones they’re eligible to receive.
