AURORA, IL — Heavy weekend rain caused traffic headaches Monday for drivers throughout the region, including many in east Aurora. Eastbound lanes of 75th Street between Commons Drive and Route 59 have been closed since about midnight due to flooding, according to Aurora police, who were unable to provide an estimate on when the road will reopen.

Much of the Chicago area saw between 3 and 4 inches of rain Sunday after heavy rain for several hours. The National Weather Service said there was major flash flooding across the Chicago area, as well as two brief tornadoes near Sandwich and Braidwood.

Scattered showers are expected Monday and Tuesday, the weather service said. Monday will have a high of 66, and Tuesday a high of 68. After Tuesday, weather is expected to be dry and cloudy for the rest of the week.
