KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County is making significant progress in its push to vaccinate more than a half-million residents against the coronavirus, with the county’s vaccine rollout setting new highs in the past week, public health data shows.

Vaccine administration in Kane County has sped up considerably over the past three weeks, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The seven-day rolling average of doses administered in Kane County more than doubled, from 1,866 on Feb. 22 to 4,218 on Saturday, the county’s best mark so far, the state’s data shows.

More than 6,100 doses were administered March 12, the most in a single day in Kane County.

About 52,000 Kane County residents were fully vaccinated by Sunday, representing just under 10 percent of the county’s population of 534,000, according to IDPH statistics. More than 149,000 doses were administered in Kane County by Sunday, the state’s data shows.

Kane County’s vaccine rollout has been beset by racial disparities since the first doses were administered in mid-December.

More than 73 percent of all coronavirus vaccines administered in the county by Sunday were given to white people, who make up about 57 percent of the county's population, according to IDPH and U.S. Census Bureau data.

Latino residents have received about 11.7 percent of all doses administered, despite representing just under a third of the county's population, according to those statistics.

Black residents, who make up about 6 percent of Kane County's population, have received less than 3 percent of all doses administered there, the state's data shows.

About 44 percent of the nearly 100,000 doses administered in Kane County were given to residents 65 or older, while about 56 percent went to people between 16 and 64, according to IDPH statistics.
