KANE COUNTY, IL — Nearly 20,000 people in Kane County were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus by Thursday after receiving two doses, public health data shows. That represents 3.7 percent of the county's population.

More than 44,000 others in Kane County have received the first shot and are awaiting the second, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Almost 84,000 total doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in Kane County.

Officials warned residents last week to expect a shortage of appointments to receive a first shot of the vaccine as they prioritize second doses. IDPH officials are hopeful first-dose shipments will increase in March.

Kane County Surpasses 50K Coronavirus Cases

Illinois' vaccine rollout has been plagued by racial disparities, with Black and Latino residents receiving vaccines at much slower rates than white residents, according to IDPH data.

Black and Latino residents received about 16.2 percent of the more than 2.5 million doses administered in Illinois by Thursday, despite making up nearly a third of the state's population.

Those racial disparities are reflected in vaccination data from Kane County.

More than 72 percent of the 83,954 coronavirus vaccine doses administered in the county by Thursday were given to white people, who make up about 57 percent of the county's population, according to IDPH and U.S. Census Bureau data.

Latino residents have received about 11.1 percent of all doses administered, despite representing just under a third of the county's population, according to those statistics.

Black residents, who make up about 6 percent of Kane County's population, have received just 2.83 percent of all doses administered there, the state's data shows.
