New Coronavirus Cases Hit Record Lows In Kane County

Kane County reported just 17 new cases March 15, the fewest in a single day since March 23, 2020, less than two weeks into the pandemic.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A week after Kane County marked the one-year anniversary of its first confirmed coronavirus case, public health officials shared data showing cases are at their lowest point in six months.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases in Kane County dipped to 53.6 on Monday, its lowest mark since Sept. 13, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Kane County had just 17 new cases March 15, the fewest in a single day since March 23, 2020, less than two weeks into the pandemic. There were 52,030 total coronavirus cases in Kane County, as of Monday.

Six Kane County residents died from COVID-19 over the past week, taking the county’s death toll to 737, the state’s data shows. The IDPH has linked 338 COVID-19 deaths in Kane County to long-term-care facilities since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The county's positivity rate rose to 4 percent Sunday after fluctuating between 3.7 percent and 3.8 percent for much of the past week, the state’s data shows. That measure peaked at 18.4 percent in mid-November.

The positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — rose to 4.2 percent Sunday, its highest mark in nearly two weeks, according to IDPH data.
