New Vaccination Site In Elgin Open To All Eligible IL Residents
The mass vaccination site is set to provide free coronavirus vaccines six days a week to all residents who meet eligibility requirements.

ELGIN, IL — Public health officials from Kane and Cook counties teamed up to launch a new mass vaccination site Wednesday at Elgin’s Eastside Recreational Center.
The mass vaccination site is set to provide free coronavirus vaccines six days a week to Illinois residents who meet eligibility requirements. Residents can register for vaccine appointments at the Elgin site through KaneVax.org or by calling 855-452-6382 (855-4-KANEVAX). Registration is required.
The site is set to remain open through Oct. 30, with officials hopeful of providing up to 1,000 doses per day, dependent on vaccine supply and staffing levels, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Kane County Board Chairman Corinne Pierog said the new site is the result of a “unique partnership” between Cook and Kane counties and the City of Elgin. Its location on Elgin’s East Side will help officials reach communities that have been left behind by the vaccine rollout so far, Pierog said.
“This cross-county vaccination partnership is a first of its kind in Illinois,” Pierog said in a news release. “We are highly encouraged by the progress being made at Kane County's other two sites and look forward to continuing those efforts in Elgin."

There are two other mass vaccination sites in Kane County, with one at the former Sam’s Club in Batavia and the other at the former Carson Pirie Scott department store on Aurora’s West Side. Residents can also register for vaccine appointments at those two sites through KaneVax.org.
Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain called the Eastside Recreational Center the “ideal location” for officials to reach his city’s underserved communities.
“The City is proud to host a vaccination site in Elgin and support all of the counties' efforts to help get as many Elgin residents vaccinated as quickly as possible, especially our underserved population that will benefit from this site's ideal location,” Kaptain said in the release.
