Obituary: David L. McConahay

MVK High School graduate, Marine Corps veteran and heavy equipment operator at Leake Excavating passes away unexpectedly at the age of 47.

David L. McConahay

David L. McConahay, age 47, of Pontiac, IL and formerly of Mazon, IL passed unexpectedly Thursday, December 12, 2019 at St. James Hospital in Pontiac. He was born in Joliet, IL, December 1, 1972 and was raised in Mazon, a graduate of MVK High School. Dave joined the Marine Corps and served his Country honorably until being discharged in January of 1995. He was the recipient of several medals.

Beloved husband of six years to Terri (nee Roberts); loving Dad of Austin, Declan and Madeline; Storm, Dakota and Ckylare; proud grandpa of Kali, Zaiden and Roman; dear brother of Jan (Clinton) Flint, Jerry “Jay” (Pam) Crumley, Jalayne (Geary) Bowman and Jeffrey (Lucy) Crumley. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his best friend, Steve Barry, also survive.

Preceded in death by his mother, Judy McConahay; father, Larry McConahay; grandson, Xavier, and good friend, Brent Lawrence.

Dave was a heavy equipment operator for Leake Excavating, which he loved. He was previously employed by Caterpillar Inc., Aurora.

Dave, a huge Notre Dame fan, loved watching college football and Nascar. He was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball teams. He was an organ donor and through his gift, several lives will be enhanced.

Visitation for Dave McConahay will be Thursday, December19, 2019 from 4 – 7:30 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services will be Friday, December 20, 2019 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL where all friends and relatives are asked to meet at the Information Center promptly at 11:15 a.m., with Military Honors and Committal Prayers at 11:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow.
