Police Pursuit And Standoff In Aurora
The suspect was taken into custody after officers deployed a police dog and shot the man with bean bag rounds

A Bolingbrook man led Aurora Police on a pursuit and then barricaded himself in his vehicle for about 90 minutes before officers were able to arrest him, according to a statement released by the Aurora Police Department. Just before 3 a.m. on Friday morning, an Aurora officer saw a vehicle driving southbound on Hill Avenue near Fifth Avenue. A license plate check indicated that the owner was wanted on several Kendall County warrants. The officer stopped the suspect vehicle and obtained information from the driver, a 41-year-old Bolingbrook man, and his passenger, a 38-year-old woman. During the stop, the suspect drove off and led police on a pursuit "that touched all four counties in which Aurora is located including portions of Oswego and Plainfield," according to police spokesman Dan Ferrelli. During the chase the driver let his passenger out of the car Second Avenue and Ohio Street. He stopped at 3:21 a.m. on Ogden Avenue, just west of Waterford Drive.
Police learned that the man may have been armed and had made statements about hurting himself. Officers said they saw him holding an object resembling a pistol to his head. Police negotiators spoke with the suspect via his cell phone. The suspect exited his vehicle, but got back in after several minutes. Special Response Teams from Aurora and Naperville used armored vehicles to pin his vehicle in place. After about 90 minutes the suspect exited his vehicle and refused to show both hands. He was knocked down with less-than-lethal bean bag rounds and a police dog was employed to subdue the man. He suffered minor injuries and was arrested at 4:50 a.m.
"All of the officers involved showed tremendous professionalism and a great deal of restraint in an incredibly stressful situation," police spokesman Dan Ferrelli told the Beacon News. "This incident concluded exactly the way we want all incidents to end: peacefully and essentially without any injuries. It also demonstrated outstanding teamwork with our colleagues at the Naperville Police Department."
