Pop-Up Food Pantry To Return To Aurora’s Phillips Park On Monday
Volunteers are expected to hand out fresh produce, produce and dairy products to more than 1,200 families Monday morning.
AURORA, IL — For the fourth time this summer, volunteers and city officials will set up in Aurora’s Phillips Park on Monday to hand out groceries to hundreds of families.
The city’s fourth pop-up pantry is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Monday at the park, located at 1000 Ray Moses Dr. City officials are encouraging residents to show up early for the distribution event.

A similar pop-up pantry in August distributed fresh produce, meat and dairy products to 1,200 cars in less than two hours, officials said.

"Our pop-up pantries are a mixed blessing," Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin said in August. "While we are happy to provide this much-needed service for our community, it is disheartening to see the need continue to grow during this pandemic."

In May, the city's pop-up food pantry served about 800 families, while the second pantry in June served 1,000 families, the release states.
The pop-up food pantry in Phillips Park is being sponsored by the City of Aurora, along with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, the Quad County Urban League and Ald. Ted Mesiacos, who represents Aurora's 3rd Ward.
