Becky Dunnigan, community outreach and program coordinator for the pantry, said she was “literally overjoyed” when Blessings in a Backpack asked to join the partnership, as the organization can provide extensive resources to help young children in the region.
Demand for the food pantry’s services is currently about twice as high as it was before the coronavirus pandemic started, Dunnigan said. For parts of the past year, that demand was four times higher than it used to be, she said.
The Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry is always seeking volunteers to help support its mission. Residents can volunteer in a variety of ways, from helping pack hundreds of Easter baskets to loading cars at pop-up events, Dunnigan said.
The organization recently launched a "Pantry To-Go" program that delivers food boxes to residents who are unable to leave their homes amid the coronavirus pandemic. Volunteers make no-contact deliveries every Monday.
