Races Hang In The Balance With 10K Mail-In Votes Out In Kane Co.
Thousands of ballots could still be in transit to election offices, delaying even unofficial results in several Kane County races.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A slew of races in Kane County remain too close to call Thursday with potentially thousands of votes left to count.
Kane County has yet to receive more than 10,000 mail-in ballots that were sent to voters, who were required to postmark them by Nov. 3, the Kane County Chronicle reports. The Kane County Clerk’s Office will have until Nov. 17 to count all mail-in ballots.

That means thousands of ballots could still be in transit to election offices, delaying even unofficial results in several races.
In the race for Illinois’ 14th U.S. Congressional District, Republican Jim Oberweis has declared victory over incumbent Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) despite a chance for some movement in the vote totals over the coming days.

Oberweis holds an 895-vote lead over Underwood with all ballots counted that were cast during early voting, on Election Day or through the mail. A spokesperson for Underwood’s campaign told Patch on Wednesday that “votes are still being in this race and this race remains too close to call.”
That margin will also be affected by mail-in ballots received after Election Day by clerks in other counties in the congressional district.
The race to replace Oberweis as the senator from Illinois’ 25th Senate District has been tight since polls closed Tuesday.
Election Results: Villa Widens Lead Over Ward
Democratic State Rep. Karina Villa opened up a small lead early on in the vote-counting process, but Republican Jeanette Ward stormed back throughout Tuesday night, cutting the lead to just three votes at one point.
Villa holds a lead of about 1,150 votes, with 100 percent of precincts in the district reporting vote totals. As of 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Villa was leading with 57,287 votes (50.5 percent) to Ward’s 56,139 votes (49.5 percent).

Neither candidate has declared victory or conceded defeat in the race.
The race to serve as Kane County Board Chairman is also too close to call Thursday morning, with Democrat Corinne Pierog leading Republican Dave Rickert by 1,665 votes.
Pierog said Wednesday in a Facebook post that she was “happy to report we have the lead,” but she cautioned her supporters that it will take some time before the race’s winner is known.

“The polls closed last night, and the last votes were cast,” Pierog wrote on Facebook. “While we don’t know the results of our election just yet, we are happy to report we have the lead! But this race will not be over until every vote is counted.”
There are also some races for the Kane County Board that are within several thousands vote, meaning it’s also too early to declare winners.
