Rick Guzman is Running for Mayor of Aurora

Aurora Assistant Chief of Staff Rick Guzman to run for mayor.

Rick Guzman, Mayor Tom Weisner’s assistant chief of staff, announced he will run for mayor of Aurora. There are now three announced candidates for Aurora mayor in 2017.

Guzman, 38, was the mayor's aide for about five years. A free kick-off event will take place on April 29 at the Prisco Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave.

In his release, Guzman states, "This campaign is about bringing people together. It is a team effort and we're looking forward to expanding our team by adding more residents who want to be a part of writing Aurora's next great chapter."

Guzman also announced a campaign committee that includes Scott Voris; Gonzalo Arroyo; Rachel Ossyra, Naperville Township supervisor and a Fox Valley Park District Board member; and former Aurora Police Chief Bill Powell.

"Aurora is undeniably a stronger and safer community than it was 11 years ago when Mayor Tom Weisner first took office," Guzman said. "I believe we must continue along this path while seizing new opportunities that simply weren't possible during the height of the greatest recession of most of our lifetimes."
