Rush Copley Hosts Pop-Up Pantry For Cancer Center Families

The Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry handed out milk, eggs and chicken to families of patients fighting cancer.

AURORA, IL — The Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry set up outside the Rush Copley Medical Center earlier this week to support people battling cancer and their families amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Volunteers from the pantry were outside the Aurora hospital Monday morning, giving away 60 gallons of milk, 60 dozen eggs, and 60 boxes of chicken to families of patients at Rush Copley’s cancer center, according to a news release.

Oswego’s Becky Dunnigan, who serves as community outreach coordinator for the pantry, was helped by volunteer Ashley Browning, of Aurora; cancer center director Jennifer Lerner, of Morris; and Rush Foundation assistant Lisa Lapinski, of Aurora.

The pantry is running a “Move the Milk” promotion throughout the area after partnering with the Chicago-based Gourmet Gorilla food service company. The pantry is receiving 3,000 gallons of milk each week from the company, according to the release.

Schools, churches and other organizations can host a pop-up pantry, with products provided by the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, by calling 630-692-3061.

Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 54 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
