See Someone Poking Around Your Yard? Could Be Township Employee

An Aurora Township employee will ring your doorbell before taking measurements of property. The township sends a reminder every year.

AURORA TWSP., IL — The Aurora Township Assessor sent an annual reminder to warn residents about the possibility of a field deputy coming to their house and taking pictures and measurements. Davis Offutt, township assessor, said to look out for a man in a white Bronco (with magnetic signs identifying it as Aurora Township property) wearing an official shirt with a hat and badge. That person is likely there to upgrade real estate data throughout the township.

He will ring your doorbell and ask permission to look around the property. Offutt said it's perfectly fine to say no, and that they'll reach out directly at a later time to explain. If no one answers, they'll proceed to measure buildings and take necessary pictures, according to a memo from Aurora Township.

The team is typically out between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. throughout the year. Most of the properties are in Aurora, North Aurora, Montgomery and unincorporated Kane County. This is just a reminder for activity that happens all year, every year. Law enforcement has been notified, as well. For questions, Offutt can be reached at 630-896-7792.
