St. Charles Extends Outdoor Dining Program As Pandemic Rolls On

Portions of First Street and Walnut Avenue will remain closed to traffic to allow restaurants to continue using the area for outdoor dining.

ST. CHARLES, IL — St. Charles will continue to close portions of First Street and Walnut Avenue in support of restaurants after city officials recommended extending an outdoor dining program amid ongoing coronavirus restrictions, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

The program first launched last summer, with the St. Charles City Council extending it in October.

Indoor dining has been banned in St. Charles and throughout Kane County since October, when public health officials imposed tightened restrictions amid a huge spike in coronavirus cases and deaths.

St. Charles aldermen laid out several recommendations to improve the outdoor dining program, including limits on amplified music, the Chronicle reports.
