Time To Kick Out The Christmas Tree? Here Are Aurora's Rules

Aurora has a few rules when it comes the the disposal of your real Christmas tree.

AURORA, IL — Say it ain't so! Is it really time to kick our Christmas trees to the curb? There's certainly no law that says you can't have it up as long as possible (see tweet from Mariah Carey below), but Aurora does have some guidelines.

Aurora's free Christmas tree recycling program begins Jan. 8. Trees will be picked up during weekly trash and recycling collection, and there's no need for a sticker. Collection ends Jan. 19.

To be properly recycled, trees must be free of plastic bags, all decorations (including tinsel) and tree stands, and be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the normal collection day. Wreaths and garlands will not be collected because of the wires used to form them. Those must be stickered as trash.

After the normal collection day during the week of January 15, trees left at the curb must be stickered in order to be collected. So, when are you recycling your tree?
