Veterans Day Parade In Aurora This Weekend

The Veterans Day Parade kicks off at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

AURORA, IL — A Veterans Day parade is set for 10:15 Saturday, Nov. 11 to honor those who have fought for freedom in the U.S. The parade will step off at the corner of Benton Street and Broadway, and end at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall with an “Honoring All Who Served” ceremony. The event includes a military rifle salute by veteran organizations at 11:11 a.m., the exact time the armistice was signed that ended WWI, according to the city's website. Participating organizations include:

  • AMVETS Post 103
  • Aurora Fire Department Honor Guard
  • Aurora Police Department
  • City of Aurora Veteran's Advisory Council
  • East Aurora High School Marching Tomcats
  • East Aurora High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps
  • Fox Valley Marines
  • Marmion Academy Flannigan Rifles
  • Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84
  • Waidley VFW Post 468

Mayor Richard C. Irvin and other dignitaries will pay tribute to veterans. The keynote speaker at the ceremony will be Lieutenant Lauren Carthan, Senior Naval Science Instructor of the East Aurora Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. The G.A.R. will stay open after the ceremony for free tours. It's all open to the public for no cost. There will also be food vendors nearby, children's entertainment and handicapped access.
