Virtual Race To Raise Funds For Aurora Food Pantry

Those who register to compete in the virtual race can run 5 kilometers at any point between Sept. 20 and Sept. 30.

AURORA, IL — With highly popular fall races called off this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, one local company is hosting a virtual 5K race to raise money for Aurora’s Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry.

Final Stretch Events is advertising its Run for Hunger 5K as “a virtual run to alleviate hunger” in the Aurora community. The company is hosting the virtual race in support of Hunger Action Month in September.

Those who register to compete in the virtual race can run 5 kilometers at any point between Sept. 20 and Sept. 30. Runners and walkers can register at runforhunger5k.com until Sept. 27. Results can be submitted manually or through the ASICS RunKeeper app.

Final Stretch Events is aiming to raise $25,000 for the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry to support its efforts to feed residents in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The company is encouraging running to join teams that can be sponsored. Prizes will be given to the team that raises the most money and to the first three finishers.

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 54 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
