Bolingbrook Community Meets ‘On the Table’ and Takes Action

Residents, Community Leaders, Non-Profit Leaders, and Elected Officials come together at a table to discuss concerns and passions.

The third annual civic engagement event hosted by two local Bolingbrook residents, Dr. Nadia Carpanzano and Michael Carpanzano, was held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at The Promenade Bolingbrook. Nearly 50 residents, community leaders, non-profit leaders, and elected officials joined the ‘On the Table’ forum.

"It is so powerful when just a few positive and forward-thinking individuals come together, face-to-face, to discuss strategies and ideas to make our community a better place," Michael Carpanzano said.

Topics discussed at Tuesday’s forum included youth engagement, education, non-profit involvement, small business challenges, and an overarching theme of lack of volunteerism and commitment among younger generations. Moving forward, individuals who attended are challenged to take action. The Carpanzanos offered to help structure action plans, connect individuals to community resources, help non-profits collaborate with each other, and even help hold attendees accountable to small initiatives that will create a better world to live in.

The Carpanzanos have hosted the event for the previous three years, and attendance has increased each year. Thousands of individuals around the region gathered on Tuesday at hundreds of tables spread out across Chicagoland. The event’s regional structure is provided by The Chicago Community Trust, in partnership with The Community Foundation of Will County, of which Nadia Carpanzano sits on the Board of Directors.
