Candidate questions

Why are you running for this office?

To ensure the good efforts we have begun to help our number one resource Kids. And to see the past four years of growth continue. Also to ensure the empty nesters that make up about 60% are well represented in our community and that we are good stewards of the taxpayers money.

I have been self employed for my entire career and I know what it takes to succeed at the highest levels professionally both as a professional athlete and as an entrepreneur. I feel I bring that to the board and the ultimately to the classroom. I know that hard work and education go hand in hand and am willing to help impart that to those involved in the schools at VVSD

What's your favorite thing about Valley View School District 365U?

I think we have a great staff of educators the are dedicated to the kids which for me is where the rubber meets the road. I really enjoy interacting with the kids at events and seeing the successes they make when we honor them at Board meetings. You can see the efforts of the individual teachers on some of the students lives and i find that rewarding and feel that  in some small part we as aboard have provided some of the guidance they have received.

What’s your opinion of the “New View” and the general direction the school district is headed? What do you agree with? What would you change?

I think we are heading in the right direction. Adding the All Day Kindergarden, which over 1000 families took advantage of, will give these kids a stronger foundation to grow on. The new methodologies have only been in place a short while I think we will see the results in a another year or so. I strongly believe we are going in the right direction and believe the results will show that in a year or so.

What is the biggest challenge facing Valley View?

Continuing to provide a quality education to our  communities children with more and more limited resources. We have to be ever mindful of the taxpayers money and yet provide the kids the best preparation we can for advancement beyond High School. We wrestle every meeting with less funding from the State and how to maintain programs and increase the educational well being of the kids with less funding

As a board member, how do you plan to promote academic achievement while remaining fiscally responsible?

We have made cuts in spending that have very little affect in the class room. I will continue to support efforts that streamline operations as long as there are no or minimal impact to the classroom and the kids. All our staff need to realize that there has to be belt tightening. I think they do but we may have to do more with less as we hope for the economy to turn around.
