Bolingbrook Man Firing Gun Into Air Seen By Police

The Bolingbrook officer on patrol saw Ronnie L. Portis firing a gun into the air on New Year's Day.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Bolingbrook man was seen firing a shotgun into the air by a police officer on New Year's Day.

On Friday at 12:05 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 500 block of North Ashbury Avenue noticed the man, later identified as Ronnie L. Portis, 46, of North Ashbury Avenue, firing the gun. Following which, Portis entered a house with the gun, police said.

Portis was taken into custody and a shotgun was recovered by officers, police said. He was charged with reckless discharge of firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, felony possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and failure to surrender a firearm owner’s identification card, police said.

Portis was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility at 2:45 a.m. Friday. His bond has been set at $50,000.
