Bolingbrook Area 2013 Summer Camp Guide

Enrollment is starting soon for many summer camps. Here's a selection of summer camps in and around Bolingbrook and Will County.

It may seem hard to believe, but spring is well on its way and it won't be long until summer arrives.

Area organizations are offering a variety of camps to help kids stave off boredom during the summer months. Check out what's available in and around Bolingbrook:

Camp Alotta Fun Summer Day Camp:

  • Type of camp: Day Camp for ages 6-14
  • Cost: Fees vary by age and hours.  Details available at the Bolingbrook Park District website.
  • Where: 200 S. Lindsey Lane 
  • When: Weekly sessions from June 6 to Aug. 12 
  • Deadline for registration: Registration is available throughout the summer.
  • Details: Activities will include arts and crafts, games, sports, music, nature, swimming, trips to local parks, and field trips. Early morning and late afternoon camp hours are also provided to help working parents.

Eco-Trekkers, Eco-Explorers, Eco-Voyagers

  • Types of camp: outdoor education, i.e. hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, climbing and wilderness survival
  • Cost: $99 for residents, $145 for non-residents 
  • Where: Hidden Oaks Nature Center 
  • When: June 10 to Aug. 16 
  • Deadline for registration: Registration is available throughout the summer.
  • Details: Discover everything from the ground up through hands-on science and interactive activities. Campers are required to bring a lunch, snack and refillable water bottle daily and their own bike and helmet for bike day.

Parkie’s Harbor Heroes Aquatic Camp

  • Types of camp: Get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be a lifeguard at Pelican Harbor, ages 9-13. 
  • Cost: $175 for residents, $210 for non-residents 
  • Where: Pelican Harbor 
  • When: June 24-28, July 22-26; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Details: This camp is a safe option for kids to spend their day at the water park, and learn valuable lifesaving skills. Lunch for each day of camp, and a refillable water bottle will be provided for campers. Campers are required to bring a backpack, containing a towel, appropriate swimwear, and sun screen

Plainfield

Plainfield Park District

Youth Day Camp:

  • Type of camp: Day camp for grades K-5
  • Cost: $140 for residents, $210 for non-residents
  • Where: Boy Scout Park pavilion, next to the Recreation-Administration Center, 23739 W. Ottawa St.
  • When: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., weekly sessions from June 3-Aug. 9
  • Deadline for registration: Deadline is two weeks prior to the start of a session; after that, a $25 late fee is charged
  • Details: Activities include field trips, swimming, crafts, sports, specialized activities and, new this year, Friday-morning entertainment.

Joliet

Joliet Park District

Discovery Day Camp:

  • Type of camp: Six- or eight-week damp for ages 6-8
  • Cost: Fees vary by age and hours. Details available at the Joliet Park District website. 
  • Where: 3000 W. Jefferson St. 
  • When: Sessions are June 3-Aug. 9 and July 8-Aug. 9
  • Deadline for registration: Deadlines are May 26 and June 28.
  • Details: Activities will include field trips, arts and crafts, swimming, gymnastics, ice skating and special events. Lunch is provided.

T.E.E.N. Camp:

  • Type of camp: Day camp for ages 12 to 14
  • Cost: Fees vary by age and hours. Details available at the Joliet Park District website. 
  • Where: 3000 W. Jefferson St. 
  • When: Sessions are June 3-Aug. 9 and July 8-Aug. 9
  • Deadline for registration: Deadlines are May 26 and June 28.
  • Details: Get out there and make the best of summer by attending field trips and meeting other kids. Lunch is provided, and fees include the cost of bus transportation.

Romeoville

Romeoville Recreation Department

Fun in the Sun Day Camp:

  • Type of camp: Day camp for ages 5-14
  • Cost: $107 for residents, $160 for non-residents
  • Where: Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Rd.
  • When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. p.m., weekly sessions from June 10-Aug. 16
  • Deadline for registration: Deadline is seven days before camp begins
  • Details: Each week is different and includes indoor and outdoor activities such as swimming, crafts, sports, field trips and making new friends. Camp T-shirts ($10 each) are required for all camp field trips. Children are required to bring two snacks, drinks and lunch in an insulated lunch bag for each day of camp.
