Bolingbrook Teen Turns Himself In For Church Graffiti: Cops

Police said he told officers he spray-painted at the church because he believed a vehicle from the church had nearly hit him earlier.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Independent Baptist Church was vandalized with spray paint graffiti Monday evening, and police say a Bolingbrook teen has turned himself in for the crime. Two cars in the parking lot, the church shed's doors and concrete under a pavilion were sprayed with "gang graffiti," police said.

Officers were dispatched to the church, 380 W. Boughton Road, around 5:30 p.m. for a report of criminal damage to property. While there, police said they were told the teen who did it, Jeffrey J. Hayes, turned himself in at the station.

Hayes, 19, of the 300 block of Appling Lane, told police he spray-painted at the church because he thought a church vehicle had nearly hit him earlier, according to the department.
