Bolingbrook's Mayor Named Top 20 Global Women of Excellence
Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta was recognized for her "inspiring leadership and pioneering initiatives celebrating the phenomenal woman today."

BOLINGBROOK, IL – It is with great pride that the First Party For Bolingbrook announces that Mayor Mary S. Alexander-Basta has been named by the multi-ethnic advisory task force headed by United States Congressman Danny K. Davis (D-IL) as one of the 20 Global Women of Excellence for 2021. The American Multi Ethnic Coalition Inc. recognized her “inspiring leadership and pioneering initiatives celebrating the phenomenal woman today.”
United States Vice President Kamala Harris was among the 19 other awardees, all of whom were selected from a host of nominations all over the world. Mayor Alexander-Basta was appointed to the role of Mayor of the Village of Bolingbrook in August 2020 to complete the term of retiring Mayor Roger Claar. She was elected as Village Trustee in 2019, after serving on the Village’s Public Safety Committee and Public Services Committee. She is experienced in village planning, having chaired the Bolingbrook Plan Commission. She also has over thirty years of experience in major corporate hospitality management and event planning. She is an active leader in the school district community, serves on the Executive Board of the over-40 year old Bolingbrook Soccer Club, and is a founding Vice President of the Bolingbrook STEM Organization. She is also a dedicated wife and mother of two teenaged sons, and in 2018 was recognized as Bolingbrook’s Female Citizen of the Year.
